![]() I was president of Eta Kappa Nu, the EE Honor Society at my school, and the one-time lifetime membership fee eventually only covered the fee to the National Chapter, which had an central office and a quarterly publication. Which probably needs some money to hold events and buy things for members. It's not an Honors _distinction_, it's an Honor _Society_, I don't think anyone should be required to pay for honors distinctions, so I declined. I was 'invited' to join Golden Key, but to join they wanted me to pay a $60.00 'membership fee'. ![]() I'll just have to live with that mistake. Note: I don't care about Golden Key, as it is clearly a scam. I'm just curious whether anyone here has joined these honor societies or ones like them and had experiences either negative, positive, or neutral. Is it worth joining? Do these do anything at all for my future? I'm a software engineering student and I'm strongly considering graduate school, but a job is also a possibility. This seems to be an engineering-specific society for students in the top 4% of a school's engineering population. $55 fee.Īlpha Oregon Chapter of Tau Alpha Pi Honor Society The requirement is a 3.75 GPA and at least 45 credit hours completed. The brochure describes it as being an honor society for "All Academic Fields" and is part of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). Both invites came with letters from faculty members I've had positive experiences with. Both seem to have somewhat strict requirements for membership, at least compared to the aforementioned Golden Key. I'm now in the spring term of my junior year and just received two invites to honor societies. After a few years of spam and a $60 membership fee, I think it's safe to say it was a mistake. I joined Golden Key as a freshman in my 4-year degree because I didn't know any better.
